ShipCSX, EDI 322 & CLM tracing tools start reporting Order Placed & Repair Track Events
In our effort to continuously improve the ease of doing business with CSX, three new events for order placement and repair track moves are now visible when tracing rail shipments via ShipCSX, EDI 322 or CLM.

These new events are generated for:

  • Order Placed by Customer: when a plant switch request is submitted to request placement for a constructively-placed car to a customer industry.

  • Transferred to Repair Track: when a bad ordered car has been sent to a track for repair.

  • Released from Repair Track: after a car is released from bad order, the release from repair track signifies that the car is repaired and will soon be classed for continuation to its destination.

Please note if you are subscribed to receive Bad Order notifications through ShipCSX, repair track moves will not be reported as part of the notice. We are working to integrate repair track moves into the Bad Order notification.
Party to Route Support in Railcar Tracking for our Short Line Partners
On May 2, ShipCSX will allow Short Line Partners to trace Railcar Tracking shipments based on being party to the route. This enhancement will increase the visbility of tracking shipments for Short Lines. Your road must be part of the route for either; line haul, haulage, origin or destination switch, junction settlement, or intermediate switch in order to trace shipments.

The eBusiness Team will automatically add this functionality to Short Line ShipCSX users.
US Customs & Border Protection (CBP)
It is anticipated that in late May (2013) Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will publish their final ruling that would require the reporting of empty rail cars returning to the United States that contain residue. This ruling will call for a 60- 90 day informed compliance period that would require CSX to begin manifesting and reporting empty railcars returning to the United States from Canada that contain residue of the original loaded product. CSX has initially identified two specific car types (Tank cars and Covered Hoppers) that will be targeted for compliance with CBP.

Currently, empty residue shipments have been allowed to return to the United States without any manifest reporting to CBP and in most cases the cars have been automatically reverse routed by CSX without any customer involvement. When this informed compliance period begins empty railcars containing residue must be manifested and reported to CBP electronically.

In order to comply with CBP's ruling, Customers who are involved in the movement of empty railcars returning to the Unites States from Canada will be required to submit an empty Bill of Lading to CSX that must include the estimated weight of the residue product as well as other required shipment information as identified in the Trade Act of 2002. Most importantly the actual shipper and consignee as well as identifying the product last contained in the loaded movement.

CBP has established a threshold for the reporting of empty residue cars returning to the United States at 7% or less of the car Umler capacity of the railcar. Shipments that fall within this threshold will not require broker filing/entry and CBP will issue a release to affect border crossing.

Shipments that exceed the 7% threshold will require a broker on the billing to CSX and the broker will be required to make broker entries on behalf of the shipper.

CSX will be providing more specific requirements and instructions to our customers prior to the actual implementation of this informed compliance period with CBP.
Did you know? Electronic Payments
Did you know customers can remit electronic payment information directly to the CSX system? When a CSX customer receives an invoice, they can electronically submit the payment in the form of an EDI 820 transaction. This enables customers to send the total payment amount and the line item details in a single file, allowing for faster payment resolution. Customers can send the Freight Bill Number, Waybill Number and Date, Bill of Lading Number and Date, or the Equipment Initial and Number and Date as line item details.

The bundled payment and remittance information can be sent via the banks or the payment can be sent via the bank and the remittance detail sent directly to CSX to be married to the payment via a separate process. Any remittance sent directly to CSX can utilize the EDI 820, .csv, .txt, or XML file formats. An EDI 820 implementation guide and sample files can be found at: CSX 820 Payment Order/Remittance Advice.
Unit Train Management Enhancement
Our Unit Train Management Tool Has Been Updated to Include a Shipment Pipeline View

Over the next few months, we'll be making a number of updates to our Unit Train tool. The first is a customer requested one that now adds a view of what shipments are headed toward you. To do that, we've updated the 'View Orders' section to have tabs to switch between tasks.

Shipment Pipeline is a new view of the business headed to you. It will sort the shipments in arrival order with the one arriving soonest at the top. Behind the scenes, we use our new unit train ETAs to put them in the correct order.

If you are a coal producer who schedules your loading calendar, you'll have 3 tabs, including the new pipeline view,

The 'Order Scheduling & Planning' and 'Order Calendar' views are similar to what you are used to seeing today. We've made a couple of tweaks to get ready for ETA visibility. Our plan is to start showing you ETAs in the next couple of months.

If you have the Track Car Sets function, it has been modified to open in an expanded format to make it easier to use. We've also removed some unnecessary information and moved things around a bit. It now defaults to arrival order although the user can still sort by Set ID or L/E status. Once you've re-sorted the sets, you can return to the 'Arrival' order by clicking on the 'Re-sort by ETA' link that appeared in the Set column.
