ShipCSX Transit Times for Carload Shipments Coming Soon!
The new Transit Times tool will allow you to stay on top of CSX's actual transit history specifically for transportation lanes you set up and manage.

  • View comparisons of the actual transit to transit standards for lanes you set up for specific shipper and consignee locations.
  • Search by quarter or month with data available for anytime over the previous year.
  • Easily identify shipment exceptions such as; bad orders, no bills, overloads and diversions that cause traffic delays.
  • Create and save shipping lanes with the ability to change your 'Role' from Shipper or Consignee.
  • Generate professional graphs and preformatted spreadsheets with your transit time results.

You have the ability to filter searches by not only lane but also commodity, line of business, business unit, and shipment type.

Look for more communication about the Transit Times tool in the coming months.
New ShipCSX Email Validation
Effective April 10th, 2011, CSX implemented an email validation process for ShipCSX users in an effort to enhance data quality, heighten security measures, and improve communication with customers.

What to expect:
  • New ShipCSX registrants are required to validate their email address prior to using ShipCSX by clicking on a link sent to the email address supplied during registration
  • Existing users will eventually encounter the email validation process in a similar fashion with continued use of ShipCSX
  • Changes made to an email address of an existing account will also initiate the email validation process which must be completed prior to accessing ShipCSX modules
  • We encourage you to access your ShipCSX 'User Profile' as soon as possible to verify that the email address on file is correct and to make changes if necessary. Access your 'User Profile' by clicking on your User ID within the ShipCSX header or under Resources, click on ShipCSX User Profile.

  • Did you know? Main Parties on a Bill Of Lading
All rail shipments should clearly define the parties responsible for shipping, receiving, loading, and unloading a railcar.

The Shipper, also referred to as the "Consignor," is the company shipping a product from one location to another location. A Shipper may tender the shipping instructions (bill of lading) to the railroad or a third party may tender them.
    • The Shipper is assumed to be the loading party unless the shipper city and state do not match the rail origin city and state.

    • As long as the Shipper at rail origin is loading the railcar, no additional information is needed.

The Pick Up Party is a company at the rail origin city and state loading a railcar on behalf of the shipping company.
    • Even if the Shipper name is the same company name as the loading party, a "Pick Up Party" is needed when the shipper city and state does not match the rail origin city and state.

    • Either a Shipper or a Pick Up Party must match the rail origin city and state so rail systems will create an order for the rail crews to pull the car from industry.

The Consignee is the company to whom the product is being shipped.
    • If the Consignee is also unloading the product, no additional information is needed.
    • However, the Consignee's address, city and state, should match the rail destination city and state listed on the shipping data.
    • If the consignee at rail destination is unloading the railcar, no additional information is needed.

The Care of Party may be a third party company unloading a railcar on behalf of the Consignee at the rail destination.
    • A Care of Party is not normally associated with the origin or shipper.
    • If the Consignee city and state do not match the rail destination city and state, a Care of Party at the rail destination city and state should be shown.
    • Either a Consignee or a Care of Party must match the rail destination city and state so rail systems will create a message to inform the rail crews which receiver will unload the cars.

The Freight Payer can be the shipper, consignee, or a third party. Freight Payer is responsible for paying the freight charges.
    • Prepaid, collect, and Rule 11 indicators can affect how a payer is shown on the bills of lading.

Providing correct information for Shipper, Consignee, Pick Up Party, Care of Party or Freight Payer can resolve a lot of car movement problems and increase service accuracy. Customers using ShipCSX will have these options available on screen. Customers using EDI connections can click EDI and B2B for examples and information on these main parties for each specific EDI transaction in PDF format.
