Keeping You Informed: Preferred Processes and Tools
April 2010
eBusiness News
Looking Forward in 2010
At CSX, we're working hard to deliver for our customers. In eBusiness, we are working to simplify business processes and make the exchange of information with customers more timely and accurate. We brought you three new tools in 2009: Customer Notification, MyShipCSX, and the Shipment Management Suite. Already in 2010, we have added offline event tracing information to Parameter Trace. Throughout 2010, look for more new tools, while we improve our existing tools.

We are also providing ShipCSX updates and training on our new tools at different locations this year. Look for updates in the near future here, in the eBusiness News. We're looking forward to another great year providing the tools and training you need!
Offline events are Now Available!
ShipCSX Parameter Trace and Event Notification reports will NOW have offline event information.

This new enhancement will allow you to see events:
  • Reported by another carrier prior to CSXT receiving a car at interchange
  • Reported by another carrier after CSXT interchanges a car to them
CSXT must be party to the route in order for you to see offline event information for your traffic.
Nashville ShipCSX Training 2010
CSX eBusiness is hosting another ShipCSX Training in Nashville, TN. It is scheduled for May 6, 2010 at the CSX's division office. We still have spots available and seating is limited. The class is free, so sign up now! Registering for the class is very simple; just send an email to Patricia Davis with your name, company name, and ShipCSX user ID. We are looking forward to seeing you there!
21st Annual Short Line Workshop
On March 7-9, 2010, CSX Transportation held the 21st Annual Short Line Workshop at the Renaissance Resort at the World Golf Village in St Augustine, FL. eBusiness attended the Trade Show along with representatives from every department at CSX including Transflo, Intermodal, CSX de Mexico, and several outside vendors. It was a real pleasure to meet and greet everyone. Thanks to our short line partners that stopped by our booth to ask questions. Overall the workshop was a great success and we look forward to seeing you again next year!
Hazardous Auto Reverse (HAR) Program
CHEMICAL RECEIVERS: Are you aware of CSXT's Hazardous Auto Reverse Route Program?
Hazardous material cars -- whether full or empty -- cannot be moved without shipping instructions.

Save time with CSX's Hazardous Auto-Reverse (HAR) Program, which automatically generates shipping instructions for empty hazmat cars that are returning back to their origin. When you submit a pull request through ShipCSX for an empty hazmat car, HAR generates empty-return shipping instructions for moving the car. Confirmation is automatically sent to you.

To participate, click this link to sign up for this program: HAR Authorization. Print the contract, fill it out, sign it and fax it to the number listed. You will receive confirmation once your location is set-up for this program. Please read the contract carefully as exceptions are outlined.
SCRS coming soon!
Rail Industry Customer Serving Carrier Reciprocal Switch (SCRS) Look-Up will soon be available
This tool will make it possible for our customers to retrieve specific information on the serving railroad of physically served rail customers across the United States, Mexico and Canada, and whether or not customers located at common stations are open or closed to reciprocal switching.

The SCRS look-up tool will:
  • Allow search on partial or full customer name, station name, state, serving railroad, switch status or any combination of the search criteria
  • Present information previously unavailable or partially available from different sources
  • Provide customer information that is transmitted and maintained via EDI to CSX by the serving road source
  • Provide rail-served customers' current headquarters and branch (subsidiary) addresses
  • Include the rail industry Customer Identification File (CIF) number for Bill of Lading (EDI 404) transmissions
  • Identify multi-plants (customers with more than one rail facility), lease tracks and team tracks
  • Identify physically served customers and the companies (synonyms) that do business as (DBA's)
  • Provide "Help" text instructions and definitions
Plans are to make the tool available to the shipping public by the middle of the year. Watch for a definitive release date to be announced.

Helpful Hint: How to paste multiple car numbers into Shipping Instructions
Have you ever ran into a situation were you have several railcar numbers and you dread having to type them in one by one? If so, you are not alone. Typing in railcars one at a time is time consuming and could cause the system to time out resulting in lost information. If you find yourself in this situation often, then this shortcut is for you.

You can copy the rail car numbers from any other electronic format (l.e. email, spreadsheet, word processor).

Follow these simple steps:
  1. In your ShipCSX account, click "Rail Car Specs" underneath the Resources Tab
  2. Copy your railcar numbers then paste them into the equipment area
  3. Click the "Railcar Detail" button
  4. After you see the specifications for the railcars click the top left checkbox to select all cars
  5. Select "Rail Shipping Instructions" out of the dropdown menu above and click the "Go" button

After you have completed these steps you'll be taken straight to the ShipCSX Shipping Instructions module. Your car numbers will be automatically blown into Shipping Instructions form. From here, simply complete the rest of the information. It's that simple!
